BIMTECH at 10th Anniversary of ZEE Jaipur Literature Fest 2017
The 2017 edition of the Jaipur Literature Festival marked the 10th anniversary of the largest free event of its kind that has grown immensely since its inception. With an approximate attendance of nearly 100,000 annually, the festival draws hordes of audience and guests from over the world during the 5 day event. Each year participants, from Nobel laureates, to local writers and from Man Booker Prize winners to debutant novelists engage into readings, debates, discussions along with the audience. Keeping the tradition alive this year too, the festival was organized at the elegant Diggi Palace in Jaipur from January 19-23, 2017 and witnessed a kaleidoscope of speakers and an audience that had a voracious appetite for the offerings.
Every year the student Executive Members of MAJLIS-BIMTECH Debating and Theatre Society, Editorial Conduit and some other students get a unique experiential learning opportunity to enhance their interactional expertise and connect with the issues of the society through literature. This year 15 students along with Business Communication faculty attended the literary festival under the guidance of Prof. Saloni Sinha along with Dr. Anindita Sahoo and Dr. Eeshani Saraswat.
The experience was enriching and educative as the team attended discussions and debates by some of the greatest thinkers and writers from across South East Asia and the world on myriad topics ranging from Kalidasa, Atheism in the ancient world and The Pleasures and Perfections of Sanskrit to Brexit, The virtual economy and beyond and Migration and Displacement, from some eminent speakers like lyricist Mr. Jawed Akhtar and Mr. Prasoon Joshi, policy makers Mr.Amitabh Kant and Mr.
Shashi Tharoor, Chief Belief Officer Mr. Devdutt Pattanaik, Quizzer Mr. Sidharthan Basu, Author Mr. Vikram Chandra, litterateur Ms. Mrinal Pande among many other noted speakers.
This platform is a unique experiential project based excursion which aims at enhancing team skills, persuasiveness, rapport building, brand building, managing financials and other decision making skills expected in a manager.
The students attending ZEE JLF 2017 were divided into teams of two and three and assigned specific projects to achieve interaction objective with the speakers. As an outcome of the project the students managed an interview with Mr. Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI AAYOG who conveyed a message for all budding managers at BIMTECH. Another group was successful in persuading QUIZZER Mr. Siddharth Basu to endorse the quizzing culture of BIMTECH. He gave a special message to BIMTECH and our quizzing club.
Among other projects the groups were involved in interacting with sponsors for the
event, informing them about our institution and convincing them for a future event at BIMTECH. Other projects included studying stalls at the festival and their management and inviting them for an event at BIMTECH, capturing creative and entertainment events and recommending which one was attractive and engaging and would cost the least, meeting with student groups/ NGOs to know how they are contributing to JLF as volunteers and procure modalities and possibilities of BIMTECH students attending JLF 2018 as volunteers. Some other team was assigned to connect with Hindi/Regional language and business books authors and publishers to get details of books and recommend titles for our library. The students enthusiastically participated in live/ on the spot contests and activities, and shared their live experiences and pictures on Twitter, Facebook. The participating members also went for some sight seeing.Overall, the festival trip proved to be an excellent platform for learning that provided all the team member with an all-encompassing opportunity to gather knowledge as well as management prowess.
Prof. Saloni Sinha, Asst. Prof. of Business Communication panelist at “Sage Author Corner” at NBT New Delhi World Book Fair 2017
It was a great honour for Business Communication faculty, Prof. Saloni Sinha, to be invited as a panelist in “Sage Author Corner” on the 14th of January, 2017. The panel talk was a part of a book promotion event of Sage Publication organized during National Book Trust- New Delhi World Book Fair-2017. Prof Sinha shared the dais with the eminent authors of the book “Navigating the Maze – Simple, Smarter Strategies to Fast-Track Success.”, Mr. Bharat Wakhlu and Ms. Savita Bhan Wakhlu and Br Prasanna from Foundation for Restoration of National Values (FRNV).
During the book launch, the authors shared the ideology behind the book and its relevance for anyone working towards self development. The book offers advice and guidance to learn smart strategies to attain “Self-Mastery”, achieve “Interactional Excellence”, and derive meaning from their “World of Work”. Panelist Br Prasanna voiced his views on how one can use the inputs from the book for self development in all spheres of life.
As one of the panelist, Prof. Sinha shared her views on the book from an academician’s perspective who is grooming professionals for the organizations. She highlighted the industry expectations and the lack of grooming platforms at professional institute for effective organizational communication. She voiced her concern over the anxieties and fear that exist in today’s Gen Y leading to more quitters in the work world. She appreciated the approach of the book and opined that it is very well timed. By addressing all such anxieties about “fight or flight”, Gen Y is ready to get valuable guidance from the anecdotes, as well as, the fifty “live” and frequently asked questions from young professionals which have been answered by the authors in a simple way.
The book is receiving immense acceptance and praise from several leaders and executives. It provides a valuable insight of the “work world” which will particularly benefit young working professionals by suggesting to them ways of living a life of happiness, fulfillment and abundance. The authors have given a beautiful touch of storytelling by sharing personal anecdotes of managing oneself in an organisation which certainly appeals to every reader. It reiterates the importance of “mindfulness” and connecting with Self.
The panel talk was attended by a vibrant mix of audience who engaged in valuable discussions in the Q/A sessions after the panel talk as well as during book signing by authors. The response to the book was overwhelming.
