27th Commencement Day Address Delivered by
Mr Prabhu Chawla, Editorial Director, New Indian Express Group
The 27th Commencement Day of BIMTECH started on June 14, 2014 with lot of festivities and a highly motivating Commencement Day Address delivered by Mr Prabhu Chawla, Editorial Director, New India Express Group, who addressed a large gathering of new students, parents and faculty. Speaking on the occasion, veteran journalist Prabhu Chawla advised managers of the future to set daring goals and aspire to achieve them with the help of the Three Cs ie by building credibility, connectivity and compatibility with colleagues. Borrowing a page from his life experiences, he inspired and urged the students to dream big and sketch a mission for themselves. Be focused on the mission and strive continuously to achieve the same.
He urged management students to build strong teams by inducting brighter team members, to learn from mistakes and to shun arrogance. Mr. Chawla enthused the students to build strong successors in their professional life and to be forever open to criticism. By quoting the house of Tatas and Birlas he motivated the students to bear in mind that success without values and by adopting shortcuts has no meaning to it. From his experiences he painted the picture that humble beginnings are no deterrent to being successful in life. Dream big and work hard and success will follow by itself.
Today’s generation being too engrossed with technology and operating in silos, he cautioned the students to be aware of the happenings in the economy and country at large which would result in holistic development. Quoting several anecdotes from his career as a teacher and then as a distinguished journalist spanning decades, Mr Chawla, currently the editorial director of the New Indian Express, invited young learners to be aware of the events around them, identify underlying reasons for those events and to set future course of action to ameliorate the situation.
In an address to the students at the 27th Commencement Day event, over the weekend, Dr Chaturvedi said each one of the 429 students, joining the Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), were selected on the basis of their academic grounding, winning attributes and strong potential to do well. Merit will be the only legal currency for young management professionals and the winning mantra will be ‘Compete and Win’ supported by values and the right attitude, says Dr Harivansh Chaturvedi, eminent educationist and Director of Birla Institute of Management Technology, cautioning young learners that they should be gearing up for the marathon and not for a sprint.
“The committed faculty at BIMTECH will guide, support and mentor you at the fully residential campus, during your two years here. Your attitude and commitment will strengthen your foundation and prepare you for winning in a competitive world,” he added. BIMTECH will provide tempering that will enable the students to mould, adapt and grow into increasingly complex roles, in a fiercely competitive global environment.
Dr Anupam Verma, Deputy Director, BIMTECH, in his address reiterated the strong academic legacy and a deep commitment to excellence with values, being built by a 6,000 strong alumni of BIMTECH in the world of business and entrepreneurship globally.
