A Life Skills Education Program Launched by BIMTECH and RSSWLD at Neemka Village, UP, on 28 March, 2016, to commemorate first death anniversary of Late Dr. Smt. Sarla Devi Birla.
In a step towards empowering girls, BIMTECH launched a visionary social development program on Life Skills Education “Project Protsahan Chiraiyya”. To commemorate the first death anniversary of its founder member Dr. Sarla Devi Birla, this project was instituted by Ranganathan Society for Social Welfare and Library development (RSSLWD), an NGO supported by BIMTECH. The project aims at augmenting life skills among young girls from rural belt the project.
“Project Protsahan Chiraiyya” was formally flagged of by Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi, President, RSSLWD on 28 March, 2016 at Madhyamik Government School I at Neemka Village, Jewar Tehsil, UP. This village has been adopted under SANSAD ADARSH GRAM YOJNA by Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Local Member of Parliament and also honorable State Minister of Culture and Civil aviation.
“Project Protsahan Chiraiyya” is driven towards providing a leadership grooming platform to young girls who are attending lower middle and upper middle classes at the government schools as well as school drop outs in the area. It aims to foster self reliance, conscientiousness and citizen participation in governance with a strong emphasis on gender equality. The project developed under the guidance of Prof. N N Sharma, will be coordinated by Dr. Rishi Tiwari, Secretary, RSSLWD. The module design, implementation and execution shall be coordinated by Prof. Saloni Sinha and Dr. Awadhesh Shirotriya of BIMTECH. Technical support for “Train the Trainers’ in the pilot phase shall be provided by resource persons of Sehgal Foundation, Gurgaon. This project will be executed in the form of a capsule module of four months spread across three years. The sessions will be of 3 hours duration and will be held on every Saturday. The project is designed for batch consisting of 25-30 girls. A structured research plan has also been prepared to study the impact of this project.
The launch ceremony was graced by Mr. Abhishek Sharma, PS to MP Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Mr. Manoj Kumar Verma Basic Madhyamik Shiksha Adhikari (BSA), Mr. Makhan Lal Gupta, Chief Development Officer, (CDO), Ms. Shruti Kapoor of Sehgal Foundation, Gurgaon. The young girls of the school felicitated the guests with bouquets. The school management gathered appoximately 150 girls along with their parents who would be beneficiaries of this life skills education project.
The session began with a brief introduction about the purpose of the project by the resource persons from Sehgal Foundation. They shared that in this leadership laboratory, the girls will be trained to become future ambassadors who will shoulder the responsibility of creating awareness about health, hygiene, education, environment, interpersonal relationships etc. in their communities. It was also shared that how they will be oriented to perform the role of torch bearers who would further propagate the vision of “Project Protsahan Chiraiyya” across the village. Several success stories of empowering over 250,000 people across 464 villages in the remote regions of Haryana, Rajasthan and Bihar inspired the audience attending the function. The team briefly described the four month module through which the girls will be groomed towards leadership.
Mr. Manoj Kumar Verma, BSA, encouraged the girls to aspire for self awareness and identity. Mr. Abhishek Sharma, PS to MP shared the vision of the government towards girl child education and self development. Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi, President, RSSWLD, inspired the audience with the dream of Dr. Sarla Devi Birla who had dedicated her life to education and child welfare. Mr. Makhan Lal Gupta, CDO, requested the school management and teachers for active participation in the implementation and awareness of welfare schemes in the communities. Dr. Jitendra Singh, respected resident of Neemka Village, expressed his gratitude towards all the dignitaries through a vote of thanks.
The senior village Pradhans and other residents reiterated the importance of promoting girls and encouraging the girls to play active role in nations progress. A few girls also shared their experiences and expectations from “Project Protasahan Chiraiyya”.
The session ended open interaction about the project plan with family members. The program culminated with an overwhelming response from the parents who got their daughters registered for the Life Skills Education module. In all 76 girls registered for the program.
